An 18-year-old man was hospitalized after being attacked and stabbed with a sharp object in Gamlegården, Kristianstad. Police confirmed the incident on Sunday evening.
The case is now being investigated as attempted murder. Authorities previously classified it as aggravated assault.
Police spokesperson Filip Annas said investigators conducted multiple interviews. They spoke with the injured man and witnesses.
Surveillance cameras in the area provided valuable evidence. This helped police during the initial investigation phase.
Annas explained the upgrade to attempted murder charges. "This decision comes from a collective assessment," he said in a statement. "The perpetrator's methods were particularly concerning."
Police used a helicopter during Sunday evening searches. They continue to hunt for the suspect.
Kristianstad is a city in southern Sweden with about 40,000 residents. Gamlegården is a residential district within the city.
