Police in Aalborg are extending special stop-and-search zones for another month. The zones were first established in September following a machete attack involving rival gangs GT and A12.

For two months, officers have been able to search people in designated areas without needing prior suspicion. Police Inspector Sune Myrup said the measure has brought calm to the gang conflict.

We have not seen major clashes between these two gangs for some time, Myrup stated. That is why we conclude the search zones have an effect.

The three zones cover most of central Aalborg, plus areas around Grønlands Torv and Vangen in Nørresundby. These locations are known gang territories where conflicts frequently occur.

During the first month, police conducted over 100 personal searches and approximately 40 vehicle searches. Last month saw 97 personal searches and 28 vehicle inspections.

These operations led to about 30 criminal cases. Most involved drugs or weapons like knives and pepper spray.

The extended search zones will remain in effect until December 1. Police continue monitoring what they describe as an ongoing conflict between criminal groups.

While the temporary measures appear effective, they represent a significant expansion of police powers in these neighborhoods. The extension suggests authorities remain concerned about potential violence between these established gangs.
