ABC Brings High-Power Chargers to Finland

By Nordics Today •

ABC is installing 500 kW high-power chargers at select Finnish stations to meet growing electric vehicle demands. A survey of 3,000 drivers shows 71% want charging completed within one hour during long trips. While infrastructure expands, nearly half of users report difficulties starting charging sessions.

ABC charging stations will soon install 500-kilowatt chargers at select locations. These powerful units enable extremely fast charging for electric vehicles.

Finland already sells the Xpeng G9, which can temporarily accept up to 525 kW charging power. Several other car brands are pushing against the 400 kW limits of Finland's current high-power chargers.

This creates clear demand for more powerful charging infrastructure. ABC conducted a major survey of Finnish electric drivers to understand their charging habits and expectations.

About 3,000 electric and plug-in hybrid drivers across Finland participated in the research. The survey revealed growing needs and higher demands for fast charging points.

66% of respondents want to fully charge their cars during single stops on long trips. 71% are willing to wait no more than one hour for charging to complete.

ABC revealed upcoming plans in response to these findings. The company has been developing its charging network by increasing total station power and adding more high-performance charging points.

Olli Tervonen from ABC's chain management said selected stations will soon get equipment with charging power up to 500 kW.

Survey respondents also expressed other wishes for charging service providers. They want more card payment terminals, clearer pricing, trailer-friendly parking spots, and better queuing instructions.

Public charging locations show clear preferences among Finnish drivers. Service stations lead with 81% popularity, while stores and shopping centers follow at 73%.

Most Finnish electric vehicle owners (85%) charge their cars at home.

About half of the 3,000 respondents reported frustrating experiences with public charging stations. The most common complaint involves difficulty starting charging sessions, particularly challenges with charging applications.

This indicates clear room for improvement in user experience. While Finland is building impressive charging infrastructure, the user interface aspects need equal attention to make electric vehicle adoption truly smooth.
