Energy company Alva will increase prices for district heating, water services, and electricity transmission across central Finland. The changes take effect next year and reflect rising costs across Finland's energy sector.
District heating prices will rise approximately 6 percent in Jyväskylä's Korpilahti and Tikkakoski districts. The increase affects the basic monthly charge rather than consumption rates. For residents in heated single-family homes, this means about 4.4 euros more monthly. People in small apartment buildings will pay around 3.8 euros extra each month.
Pasi Jalonen, Alva's finance and business director, explained the reasoning behind these adjustments. He said the separate networks in Tikkakoski and Korpilahti need pricing that better matches their actual operating costs. This approach ensures reliable district heating service continues in these areas.
Other parts of Jyväskylä will not see district heating price changes. The selective increases show how energy companies now tailor pricing to specific local infrastructure needs.
Water and wastewater prices will also increase in early 2026. Jyväskylä residents will see average increases of 7.3 percent. Viitasaari customers will pay about 3.8 percent more. These changes fund ongoing water tower construction projects and network maintenance.
Electricity transmission prices will rise between 3 and 8 percent across different user groups. The increases include both value-added tax and electricity tax components. For apartment residents, the monthly change amounts to approximately 86 cents depending on consumption.
Seasonal electricity pricing for small houses will undergo structural changes. Some customers might even see lower bills depending on their consumption patterns.
Janne Pirttimäki, managing director of Alva Sähköverkko Oy, emphasized the need for infrastructure investment. He stated that price adjustments ensure the company can meet growing electricity demand. As transportation and heating systems electrify, the electrical grid requires substantial reinforcement.
Alva plans significant above-normal investments in electricity networks in coming years. The company cites general cost increases across Finland's energy and water supply sector. Price adjustments also aim to maintain service quality and fund necessary development investments.
