The director of Central Finland's welfare district has resigned from his position. Jan Tollet stepped down after losing the trust of the regional board.
The welfare district announced that Tollet's employment obligation has ended. Board chair Maria Kaisa Aula thanked Tollet for his work in a statement.
Tollet said he leaves the welfare district with mixed feelings. He listed several progress steps taken during his tenure. "I no longer have the board's confidence," Tollet stated. "This means I lack the necessary conditions to continue my work."
Kati Kallimo will serve as acting director of social and health services. The search for a new permanent director will begin soon.
This leadership change comes as Finland's welfare districts face ongoing challenges. The 2022 healthcare reform created these regional bodies to manage services. Directors must maintain board support to implement their vision effectively.
Political tensions often influence these appointments in Finland's decentralized system. The resignation highlights how quickly leadership can change when political backing disappears.
