Five of six suspects in a violent metro station attack in Copenhagen have turned out to be under the criminal age of responsibility. Police confirmed this development in their investigation.
The assault occurred at Rådhuspladsen metro station around 8:55 PM on October 14. A 30-year-old man suffered treatment-requiring injuries after being beaten with a bottle, kicked, and stomped.
Copenhagen police had previously asked for public help identifying six young people connected to the case. Authorities initially described them as aged between 15-20 years.
Most suspects have now been identified as below Denmark's criminal responsibility age of 15. Only one 15-year-old suspect faces potential punishment if found guilty.
Police captured the final suspects on Wednesday. The investigation revealed the victim had earlier confronted two men already charged in the case.
The six other suspects had no relationship with the 30-year-old victim. According to police, they sought confrontation after witnessing the initial dispute at Rådhuspladsen square.
They followed the victim and two men down to the metro station. When the confrontation turned violent, all six participated in the assault.
This case highlights ongoing challenges with youth violence in Copenhagen's public spaces. The involvement of children below prosecutable age complicates legal responses to serious assaults.
