Every year, the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education, known as RFSU, conducts a survey to examine how young people in the Nordic countries use condoms. The survey, called Kondomkollen, has been carried out annually since 2009 in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. Condom use is now increasing again, particularly among teenagers. The most recent results show that 42 percent of people in Sweden used a condom during the past year. This represents an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the findings from 2024. Among young people aged 16 to 20, the proportion who used a condom the last time they had sex with a new partner has risen from 47 percent to 50 percent in Sweden. The survey also indicates changing perceptions about condoms and those who suggest using them. Specifically, 12 percent of respondents aged 16 to 20 consider a person who proposes condom use to be sexy. In contrast, only 5 percent of adults aged 36 to 65 share this view. When compared with other forms of contraception, the condom is the most commonly used method in Sweden. Hormonal contraceptives rank second in usage. These findings highlight current trends in sexual behavior and attitudes toward protection among different age groups in Sweden, based solely on the data collected through RFSU’s annual Kondomkollen survey.
