The Copenhagen metro's M4 line extension to Sydhavn opens today at noon local time. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held with Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen and the transport minister. The extension adds five new stations and cost 5.2 billion Danish kroner.
This extension now allows the M4 to run from Orientkaj to Sydhavn via Kongens Nytorv. The five new stations are Havneholmen, Enghave Brygge, Sluseholmen, Mozarts Plads, and Sydhavn. Construction began in 2019. The project, operated by Metroselskabet, is expected to reduce travel time from Sydhavn to the city centre by 15 minutes. Trains will run every two to three minutes during peak hours.
Commuters and media will drive search interest as the first passengers are allowed in after the ceremony. Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen will cut the ribbon to mark the opening. The extension aims to improve connectivity for residents and workers in the Sydhavn area, a part of Copenhagen's expanding business districts.
This development boosts Copenhagen's public transport network, supporting trade and commerce along the Øresund region. The line's opening comes as the city continues to invest in infrastructure to support economic growth and commuter needs.
