The Danish Agency for Digital Government is requiring all registered companies to upgrade their MitID employee certificates to the new version 2.0 by May 4. This deadline has caused confusion among many small businesses across Denmark. Over 300,000 companies are affected by this mandatory update. The Agency, also known as Digitaliseringsstyrelsen, announced the requirement in March. The new version 2.0 certificates feature enhanced encryption for banking and tax filings. These upgraded security measures are intended to protect business data during financial transactions and tax submissions. A survey conducted by the Danish Chamber of Commerce on April 28 revealed that 22 percent of small businesses had not completed the update yet. That represents tens of thousands of companies still needing to act. Failure to comply with the May deadline could block access to business banking systems and the e-tax platform. This is a serious concern for Danish trade and commerce. If a business cannot access these systems, daily operations like paying invoices or filing tax returns become impossible. The Agency has set up a dedicated helpline to assist companies with the upgrade. This helpline received more than 12,000 calls in the last week alone, showing the level of urgency and confusion. Lars Hansen, Danish Business Correspondent, notes that search interest for MitID version 2.0 will rise as the deadline approaches. News outlets are also expected to cover last-minute compliance issues more heavily. Companies in Copenhagen and across Denmark should prioritize this update to avoid interruptions in their banking and tax activities.
