E20 Jeriko Tunnel Closures Affect Traffic Near Gothenburg
The Jeriko Tunnel on Sweden's E20 highway faces weekend closures for leak repairs. The maintenance work aims to prevent winter icicle formation. Traffic near Gothenburg will be affected for multiple weekends.

The Jeriko Tunnel on the E20 highway near Gothenburg will close for several weekends this autumn. Maintenance crews need to repair water leaks in the tunnel. Traffic will be affected for at least two consecutive weekends.
Per Thunstedt, maintenance project manager for bridges and tunnels, said this weekend was suitable for the work. It does not conflict with other ongoing projects. The tunnel lies along the E20 between Partille and Lerum municipalities.
Work begins this weekend during week 39. Crews will perform minor maintenance measures. An inspection before summer revealed deficiencies including water leakage.
Thunstedt explained the urgency. "We have some water leakage, and we don't want icicles forming in winter," he said in a statement. Tunnels undergo inspection at least every six years.
This closure will cause noticeable disruptions on a major Swedish transport route. The E20 is a key highway connecting Gothenburg with central Sweden. Officials timed the repairs before winter conditions worsen the leakage issues.
