Two men entered an elderly man's apartment through an unlocked door between Tuesday and Wednesday night. The incident occurred in Kankaanpää, a town in southwestern Finland.
The elderly resident was awake when the intruders entered. He ordered the unwanted visitors to leave immediately. They ignored his commands and began searching through his belongings.
The thieves found car keys inside the apartment. They used the keys to steal a car parked outside the property.
Police in Southwest Finland received a fresh report about the crime. Officers located the suspected men in the stolen vehicle in Pori just over an hour after the incident. All stolen property was returned to the owner.
The lead investigator stated that police quickly tracked down the suspects. Both men were arrested while driving the stolen car.
Satakunta District Court jailed the two suspects on Friday. The men aged 30 and 28 face charges of aggravated theft and motor vehicle theft. Court officials ordered the detention to prevent further crimes.
Home break-ins remain concerning in Finnish communities where residents traditionally feel secure. This case shows even confrontations with intruders don't always prevent thefts when criminals are determined.
