A coastal walking path near Esbjerg in Denmark has been partially reopened after safety concerns were resolved. The path along Ho Bay had been closed due to erosion risks along the cliffside.
Local authorities have now removed most barriers that were installed over the weekend. Only the outermost trail section remains closed as a precaution.
Claus Tønder Jensen, district manager for Esbjerg Municipality, confirmed the changes. He oversees the area where the path is located.
The path sits atop a hill with a steep slope facing the bay. Recent assessments showed the erosion risk has decreased.
Jensen explained there are two paths on the hill. The original route runs along the cliff edge while an alternative path winds through the trees.
Municipal workers have now reopened the inner trail. They maintained closure of the outer path for visitors with mobility challenges.
The affected section measures approximately 450 meters of Marbækstien coastal trail.
The district manager has known the area for about fifty years. He described how storms periodically erode the coastline.
Storm waves have claimed eight to ten meters of the cliff during his lifetime, he noted.
This partial reopening balances safety concerns with public access to popular coastal walks. The decision reflects changing conditions along Denmark's dynamic western coastline.
