Fifteen media professionals lost their jobs as Danish media companies restructure through a new partnership. The changes include closing two editorial departments and creating new management positions. This consolidation reflects ongoing challenges in Denmark's media industry.

Fifteen Journalists and Editors Laid Off in Danish Media Restructuring

Two editors, five permanent staff, and four temporary workers at Avisen Danmark lost their jobs following a new partnership between two major Danish media companies. The media group's top editor confirmed the layoffs in a statement. Four additional employees from the business desk Erhverv+ were also dismissed.

Peter Orry, the departing senior editor, noted some protected staff members avoided termination. These included union representatives and employees on parental leave. Orry stated two entire editorial departments are being closed.

The partnership involves Norwegian media group Amedia acquiring 30% ownership in JFM. In exchange, JFM receives 30% ownership of Berlingske Media. This cross-ownership requires implementing new management structures.

The reorganization creates a chief financial officer position and transforms the managing editor role into a news director position. Responsibility for content will shift to editors of individual publications.

Previously, JFM's management consisted of CEO Jesper Rosener, deputy managing director Bjarne Munck, and Peter Orry. Orry will not assume the new news director position but will remain with the company in a different capacity.

Under the agreement, Berlingske will now supply content to JFM's nationwide publication Avisen Danmark. The specialized business outlet Erhverv+ will cease operations, with business coverage consolidated into JFM's other publications.

Media consolidation continues to reshape Denmark's journalism landscape, with partnerships increasingly replacing independent operations. These changes frequently result in streamlined operations but also reduce editorial diversity and employment opportunities for journalists.
