The Gift Tree collection has started this week in Finland. This initiative helps families facing financial difficulties request Christmas presents for children under 18.
Families can submit gift requests until November 14. They need to specify the child's name, age, clothing and shoe sizes, along with gift wishes or information about hobbies and favorite colors.
Request forms are available at Jurva Library, Kirkkokulma, and Kurikka Family Center. Completed forms can be returned to the library's locked mailbox near daycare center Kunnannuppu or to Kirkkokulma at Kauppatie 3.
Alternatively, families can email the required information directly to jurvanlahjapuu@gmail.com.
The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare's Jurva local association organizes this drive. They partner with Jurvan Martat, Lions Club, Asaria Oy, Jurva Library, and the Chapel Parish's diaconal work.
Similar collections are running in nearby Kanta-Kurikka and Jalasjärvi municipalities. This annual tradition shows how Finnish communities support vulnerable families during the holiday season. The program's straightforward application process demonstrates practical Nordic welfare solutions in action.
Why do these gift collections matter? They ensure children from struggling households don't miss out on Christmas joy. The multiple collection points across different towns make the service accessible to families throughout the region.
