Finland's Presidential Palace confirms preparations are underway for Independence Day celebrations. Invitations have started arriving at guests' homes throughout November.
The festivities begin on December 2 with President Alexander Stubb and Suzanne Innes-Stubb first hosting veterans. This marks the second year veterans receive their own dedicated reception.
Approximately 1,700 guests from across Finland will attend the Independence Day Gala on December 6 at the Presidential Palace. Half are first-time attendees.
Officials stated the reception will celebrate education's role in building Finnish society. The guest list particularly honors education professionals from various levels.
The presidential couple also invited people they met during domestic travels throughout the year.
Performers include the Guards Band, National Opera singers, and 15-year-old pianist Matteus Pentti with violinist Ilona Vähäsöyrinki.
Evening entertainment features Jenni Vartiainen and Klaara Koivunen with the Guards Combo in the State Hall. Marzi Nyman performs in the Yellow Hall while Mirella appears in the Salon.
This year's culinary theme highlights Eastern Finland flavors from South Savonia, North Savonia, South Karelia and North Karelia. The menu includes vendace and turnip stew, apple and meat pastries, Lemi whitefish and Karelian pies.
Local producers and traditional recipes feature prominently in the food service.
Gala organizers moved the start time 30 minutes earlier to improve guest comfort. This change allows more relaxed movement between events.
The schedule adjustment appears practical given the older demographic of many honored guests. Finland maintains its tradition of blending formal ceremony with warm hospitality during these national celebrations.
