Finland could experience exceptionally warm temperatures in the coming week. Meteorologists predict thermometers might rise above 10 degrees Celsius even in Kainuu, a region in northeastern Finland.
The warm spell is expected to peak around midweek across southern and central Finland. Such high temperatures for this time of year occur only three or four times per century, according to meteorologist Jari Tuovinen in a weather briefing.
What makes this weather event so unusual? Temperatures above 10°C in late winter are extremely rare in Finland's northern regions. Kainuu typically experiences sub-zero temperatures during this season.
The week will bring foggy and humid conditions despite the warmth. Sunshine will remain limited throughout most areas.
This warm period represents a notable deviation from Finland's typical late winter climate. While brief warm spells occur, sustained temperatures this high across such a broad area remain uncommon for the season.
