A Swedish-based car dealer faces murder allegations over a fatal incident at his Finnish lakeside property. The case involves the 2019 death of 27-year-old Daniel Morova, who was shot at the suspect's vacation home in Sahalahti.

Morova died from head injuries at Tampere University Hospital hours after the shooting. Police received an emergency call at 4:24 AM from the 37-year-old car dealer, who claimed Morova had shot himself.

Officials immediately questioned the suicide narrative. The bullet entry wound was located on the right side of Morova's head, near the back—an unusual position for self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Investigators also learned Morova had accumulated drug debts that were recently being demanded for payment. This raised further suspicions about the circumstances.

The car dealer maintained his story during police interviews. He said they were sitting on the porch stairs when Morova suddenly produced a handgun and shot himself without warning.

Gunpowder residue was found on the dealer's hands. He explained this resulted from earlier target practice with the same weapon, shooting at a metal barrel and into the air with Morova that afternoon.

Only one shell casing was recovered from the scene—the bullet that killed Morova. The dealer claimed he had removed the magazine and thrown both gun parts to the ground after the incident.

His wife was reportedly sleeping during the shooting and refused to speak with police about the events.

Authorities obtained court permission for extended telephone surveillance that continued for months. Recordings revealed telling conversations.

The suspect spoke frequently about the incident while intoxicated and sober. He told others he expected to serve eight years in prison. In one intercepted call, his wife stated, "I know what you did," clearly referencing the killing.

Secret surveillance measures continued until December 2020. Supporting evidence included bloodstains at the scene, the early morning emergency call, and witness testimony.

Morova's sister spoke out in early 2022, nearly three years after her brother's death. She rejected the suicide theory completely.

"Daniel was happy and full of life that summer," she said. "Nothing suggested he would take his own life."

The preliminary investigation concluded this summer, six years after Morova's death. The case has moved to prosecution consideration with a murder charge.

Regional Prosecutor Hanna Ikonen expects to make a charging decision by year's end. The now 44-year-old car dealer lives in Sweden near the Finnish border, while his wife remains at their Kangasalla address.

This lengthy investigation highlights the challenges in resolving disputed death cases, particularly when key witnesses remain silent and physical evidence permits competing explanations.
