A Finnish motorist noticed something unusual about the truck driving ahead of him on Highway 6 near Taavetti. Elmo Kivimäki from Lappeenranta was traveling behind the truck on Friday morning when he made a disturbing discovery.
Kivimäki said both vehicles were moving at about 90 kilometers per hour. He had been following the truck for 70 kilometers before realizing what was wrong.
"We had noticed earlier that one of the truck's rear doors was black and the other white," Kivimäki explained. "Then we saw that one door was completely missing."
The truck belonged to Finnish transport company Tarkkala. Kivimäki observed what appeared to be cargo inside the trailer.
"There seemed to be some planks in there," he noted. "Nothing flew out during our journey, but it looked suspicious. If something had fallen out, the safety distance wouldn't have helped much."
Tarkkala's CEO Petri Tarkkala confirmed the company was aware of the incident. He said the truck had been damaged at a previous unloading location.
"There was no actual cargo in the trailer at that time," Tarkkala stated. "The trailer has fixed unloading chains on the floor, and the broken door was secured with a cargo strap."
The CEO emphasized that no harm came to other road users. The truck is currently undergoing repairs.
This incident highlights potential safety concerns on Finnish highways. While no one was injured, a missing trailer door at high speeds could have created dangerous road conditions.
