The city council of Ähtäri approved a symbolic one-euro sale of the bankrupt zoo's assets. Ähtäri Zoo's bankruptcy estate will transfer rental rights and property to the Visit and Care association. The deal includes land use rights, buildings, animals, equipment, and vehicles. It does not include the campsite or Flowpark adventure park operations. No employees will transfer with the sale. The bankruptcy administrator approached the city for approval as a creditor. Council members approved the arrangement on Friday. This enables the association to continue animal care at the zoo facilities. The group stated its primary goal is maintaining animal welfare. Long-term solutions for the zoo's future remain under discussion. The zoo filed for bankruptcy last autumn and closed to visitors on Sunday. This situation highlights the challenges facing regional tourist attractions in Finland. Many struggle with seasonal operations and high maintenance costs.
