A former DanCenter manager on the island of Bornholm faces criminal charges for document forgery and financial misconduct. The Danish holiday home rental company terminated the employee following an internal investigation.
The probe began after the company received complaints from both property owners and suppliers. Investigators uncovered serious violations involving falsified documents and misuse of company funds.
"The internal investigation mapped a series of serious violations that indicate document forgery and misuse of company funds committed by a DanCenter employee," the company's communications manager said in a statement.
The employee had been responsible for managing DanCenter's operations on Bornholm, a popular Danish holiday island in the Baltic Sea.
Local property owners reported troubling experiences with the company. Some discovered their properties were being offered for rental without any formal agreement. Others found contracts signed in their names without their knowledge or consent.
These incidents formed the basis for the police report. DanCenter confirmed the employee was dismissed with immediate effect.
The company declined to provide telephone comments about the case, directing inquiries to written communication instead.
This situation highlights the trust-based nature of holiday rental markets, where property owners rely on management companies to handle their investments properly. When that trust is broken, it can damage both individual livelihoods and regional tourism reputations.
