Two men have been convicted for attempting to extort a colleague of the late Swedish rapper C. Gambino. The incident occurred less than a year after Gambino's murder in 2024. Surveillance footage captured the gang members arriving at the victim's home in Gothenburg.
The court sentenced both men to one year in prison for attempted aggravated extortion. The attack appears connected to Gambino's murder and ongoing gang conflicts in the Biskopsgården district.
Gambino, a Grammy-winning artist, was shot dead in a parking garage in summer 2024. He had no criminal record or clear gang connections. Yet gang members from southern Biskopsgården believed his success financially supported their rivals in northern Biskopsgården.
In related cases, a 16-year-old received eight months in youth detention for an explosion targeting Gambino's record label executive. Shots were also fired at the label's Stockholm office, forcing employees to work from home.
Three young men linked to southern Biskopsgården received sentences between life and 12.5 years for aiding Gambino's murder. No one has been convicted for the actual killing.
The Biskopsgården gang conflict has claimed 28 lives over 13 years. It represents Sweden's longest and bloodiest ongoing gang warfare. The violence continues despite police efforts to contain it.
Gang conflicts in Sweden increasingly target individuals with indirect connections to criminal networks. This case shows how successful artists can become collateral damage in territorial disputes.
