Gothenburg Seeks 2025 Citizen of the Year
Gothenburg opens nominations for its 2025 Citizen of the Year award. The 31-year tradition honors residents who positively impact the Swedish city. A jury will select the winner from public suggestions.

Gothenburg will soon name its 2025 Citizen of the Year. This tradition has continued for 31 years. The award honors people who make positive contributions to the Swedish city.
Public nominations are now open for the title. Anyone can suggest candidates who serve as good ambassadors for Gothenburg. Previous winners cannot be nominated again.
A jury will select the final winner from all nominations. The panel includes representatives from local organizations.
Last year's winner was Ina Lundström. She received recognition for her community work.
"We're excited to continue celebrating people who do good things for Gothenburg," said Christofer Ahlqvist, a local editor. He made the statement during the award announcement.
Josefin Meyer, a marketing director, explained the award's purpose. "Being from Gothenburg means more than just location. It involves engagement, warmth and forward-thinking spirit. We meet people daily who make differences here, both big and small."
The award reflects Gothenburg's tradition of recognizing local contributors. Such civic awards remain common in Swedish cities, though Gothenburg's version has particular longevity. The consistent 31-year run shows the city values maintaining these traditions despite changing times.
