Gothenburg's famous pink pig statue has returned to Lilla Bommen after a five-month absence. The two-meter-tall artwork disappeared from its waterfront bench in April. It finally reappeared this week following maintenance work.
Property manager Lars Raner confirmed many people had asked about the missing sculpture. "We repaired it and gave it a new undercarriage," Raner explained. The statue was ready earlier but couldn't be placed due to ongoing ground renovation projects in the area.
Originally installed in 2019, the sculpture titled 'Grymt bra läge' (Swedish for 'Great Location') has become a recognizable Gothenburg landmark. Local photographer Philip Liljenberg documented the reinstalment after hearing about its return. The statue's prolonged absence highlights how even quirky public art can become meaningful to city identity. Its straightforward return shows municipal authorities following through on maintaining cultural assets without unnecessary drama.
