Residents in Roskilde woke up to an unexpected crisis on a freezing February evening. The local utility company, Fors, confirmed a major disruption affecting multiple streets, including Eriksvej, Gormsvej, Knudsvej, Køgevej, Rådhusbuen, and Thyrasvej. According to their statement, the outage stems from an urgent technical fault, with repairs underway and heat expected to return around 11:30 p.m. Reports from local Facebook groups suggest the issue may be broader than initially indicated. Several residents across different parts of Roskilde, the historic cathedral city, say they have also lost heating. This has raised concerns among families trying to stay warm during one of Denmark’s coldest months. As someone who closely follows Danish welfare systems, I know how vital reliable infrastructure is for social stability, especially in winter. Fors’ press chief, Mette Ryborg Herskind, told Ekstra Bladet that two separate faults might be involved. “We’re getting a clearer picture now,” she said. “Everyone who knows anything about this is working on it. We understand how serious this is in such cold weather.” The company plans to send SMS alerts to a wider area than first anticipated, acknowledging the problem could affect more households than originally mapped.
