Three fashion retailers will relocate in Helsinki's Redi shopping center. The move comes as Kesko expands its K-Supermarket into a two-story Citymarket.
The clothing stores Cubus, Lindex and New Yorker currently occupy spaces destined for the supermarket expansion. Their locations sit between the Kicks and Weekday stores on the ground floor.
Redi's shopping center director Mika Mustasilta confirmed negotiations are underway. "We've opened discussions with all parties about continuing their presence after Citymarket's arrival," he said in a statement.
No firm timeline exists for when the fashion retailers must vacate their spaces. The center aims to find suitable new locations within the complex for all three brands.
Cubus responded cautiously to the developments. "At this stage we can only confirm we maintain open communication with the shopping center," their communications team stated via email.
Redi currently has vacant retail spaces available. The former Giganti store recently became available when the chain closed its Redi location.
The new Citymarket will open in late 2027 at the earliest, but no later than 2028. Construction will coincide with Junatie metro bridge renovations to minimize disruption.
Public transport officials estimate metro service will halt for over six months during the 2027 bridge replacement. Kalasatama station faces even longer closures.
The metro bridge's condition has deteriorated so severely that complete demolition remains necessary. This retail reshuffle reflects Helsinki's ongoing urban development challenges as spaces constantly evolve to meet commercial demands.
