Helsinki University Hospital, known as HUS, announced a full shutdown of its primary patient record system early this morning at 06:30. The shutdown followed the detection of a ransomware attack during a routine night security scan. The hospital's director confirmed the immediate isolation of the hospital's networks in response to the incident. According to a statement from the director, emergency care is continuing but has shifted to paper-based protocols. All elective surgeries and outpatient appointments scheduled for today have been canceled. The director stated, "We have isolated our networks. The National Cyber Security Centre, referred to as NCSC-FI, has been formally notified of the attack and is assisting with the response. The hospital serves a population of over two million people in the Uusimaa region. At this time, it has not been confirmed whether patient data was exfiltrated during the cyber attack.
