Emergency crews rescued a horse that fell through a demolished house foundation in Kiljala, Finland. The incident occurred around 11 AM on Friday when the horse escaped from a nearby pasture.
The animal wandered onto the ruins of a torn-down house and fell approximately 1.5 meters into the basement. Rescue officials reported the horse remained clearly visible among the rubble throughout the ordeal.
Rescuers carefully wrapped straps around the horse, which remained calm and cooperative during the entire operation. The animal did not resist the rescue efforts.
The rescue service borrowed a tractor and front loader from local residents to lift the 500-kilogram horse to safety. When lifted out, the horse appeared slightly confused but otherwise in good condition.
According to the lead rescue official, the horse seemed perfectly healthy and continued on its way after the rescue. The operation took place at the intersection of Maatilantie and Kyläjoentie roads in Kiljala.
This incident highlights the dangers that abandoned or demolished structures can pose to livestock and wildlife in rural Nordic areas. Proper securing of construction sites remains important even in sparsely populated regions.
