Two beloved alpacas at a Danish nature kindergarten were euthanized after a severe dog attack. The incident occurred Saturday morning in Ikast, central Denmark.
Police confirmed the alpacas suffered serious injuries from two loose dogs. Officers made the difficult decision to end the animals' suffering.
Children at Lægdsgård Nature Kindergarten cared for the alpacas named Big Al and Small Al. They will return to heartbreaking news after the weekend.
Jens Claumarch, the police watch commander, described the situation. "The dogs escaped from home and chased the alpacas," he said in a statement. "The injuries required euthanasia."
The attacking dogs are a Rottweiler and a Great Dane. Authorities seized both animals after the 7:42 AM incident.
These dogs have wandered unsupervised before, according to officials. Their owner now faces losing them permanently.
A specialized animal center in Viborg will decide the dogs' fate. They could be euthanized or returned under strict conditions.
The dog owner disagrees with the potential consequences, police noted.
Lægdsgård houses various animals including mini-pigs, goats, and donkeys. Children actively participate in caring for all creatures.

Police transported the dogs to Lilleris Animal Shelter near Nykøbing. They remain there pending the official ruling.
