Lappeenranta City Council has made a final decision on the city's new multi-purpose arena. After nine years of debate, councilors voted 38-12 to build the facility at the Armila hospital site rather than the Kimpinen school location.

The council showed clear frustration with prolonged deliberations during the meeting. Council Chairman Joonas Grönlund noted the project saga began nearly a decade ago and expressed hope this decision would bring finality to the matter.

Construction costs are estimated between €45.5 million and €47.9 million depending on parking capacity. The final price will become clearer as planning progresses.

This decision represents a major step forward for Lappeenranta's development plans. The city in southeastern Finland has been debating arena locations since 2015, with various sites considered and rejected over the years.

The Armila location ultimately prevailed due to its available space and infrastructure. The new arena will serve as a venue for sports, concerts, and other major events in the region.

Local officials appear relieved to finally move forward after years of indecision. The project now transitions to detailed planning and funding arrangements before construction can begin.
