Multiple Stockholm teens have been hospitalized with poisoning symptoms after drinking suspected smuggled alcohol. These transactions often occur through social media platforms.
Police officer Thommy Brännström stated that Lidingö shows no signs of similar youth alcohol purchases. He noted that young people typically conceal such activities when they occur.
During raids on youth parties across different residences, police usually confiscate alcohol purchased from Systembolaget, Sweden's state-run liquor store, rather than smuggled spirits.
The Stockholm Public Health Survey reveals that Lidingö's drinking habits stand out negatively compared to other Stockholm areas. Parents in the affluent suburb appear to be providing alcohol directly to their children, bypassing both legal channels and dangerous smuggled alternatives.
This situation highlights a troubling reality where well-intentioned parental provision might create different risks, even while avoiding the immediate dangers of unregulated alcohol.
