A Norwegian court begins hearing the murder case of 20-year-old Linea Bjørnnes this week. The young woman was found lifeless in her Stjørdal home on December 17 and died the following morning at St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim.

The accused man faces charges of killing Bjørnnes by placing toilet paper in her throat and covering her mouth with a scarf. Police records show he had previously been subject to multiple restraining orders against contacting Bjørnnes, despite them living in the same apartment building at one point.

Defense attorney Kjell Myrland stated his client does not admit criminal guilt but acknowledges responsibility for her death. The trial in Trøndelag District Court is scheduled for four days.

Prosecutor Kaia Strandjord described both Bjørnnes and the accused as involved in Stjørdal's drug scene with substantial personal challenges. She noted the circumstances made the tragic outcome almost inevitable.

"It was very unfortunate that these two individuals met," Strandjord said in a statement.

The relationship was marked by repeated conflicts, with Bjørnnes filing multiple police reports against the man. Court documents reveal he allegedly threatened her with an iron bar, damaged her property, and tried to force entry into her apartment against her will.

Many incidents occurred while restraining orders were active against the man. Police had separated the two the day before the killing after Bjørnnes called for help removing him from her home.

Bjørnnes had moved into the municipal housing complex after serving a sentence in Skien prison. Her parents' lawyer, Gunhild Janne Oftedal, said the family dreads but anticipates the trial finally starting after its original May schedule was postponed.

Multiple oversight investigations are underway regarding local authorities' handling of the case. The regional governor examines Stjørdal municipality, health services, and child protection agencies. The police special unit also investigates whether officers made errors in their interactions with both individuals before the killing.

The case exposes concerning gaps in Norway's protection systems when restraining orders repeatedly fail to prevent tragedy.
