Police in North Jutland have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly defrauding elderly residents. The suspect faces charges of fraud, computer fraud, and burglary following a months-long investigation.
He will appear in Hjørring Court on Wednesday at 2 PM. Authorities accuse him of contacting senior citizens and convincing them to hand over their credit cards.
A police commissioner from Frederikshavn said the man used various methods to obtain the cards. He sometimes pretended to be from government authorities. Other times he built trust with victims before asking to borrow money.
Police captured the suspect in Aalborg on Tuesday around 11 PM. They had been searching for him since summer.
The investigation covers 12 primary cases across multiple North Jutland towns. Affected communities include Sæby, Brønderslev, Aalbæk, and Hjørring. The crimes occurred between July 17 and September 21.
The stolen bank cards were used to withdraw cash and make purchases in stores. This pattern of targeting vulnerable seniors shows organized fraud remains a serious problem in rural Denmark.
The 50-year-old suspect has previous convictions for similar offenses. Police confirm he had been living in North Jutland for some time.
This case follows other recent fraud schemes targeting elderly North Jutland residents. Authorities continue warning seniors about sophisticated scam attempts in the region.
