A small hydraulic oil leak occurred Wednesday morning along Vespuoli Road in Korpilahti. The incident started when an excavator's seal broke. Hydraulic oil then flowed into the lakeside reed beds.
The rescue department received an alert about the situation at 10 AM. One rescue unit responded to the location.
The excavator operator managed to collect the oil that had leaked into the lake water. They recovered approximately 4-5 liters of hydraulic fluid. The rescue unit checked the situation but no longer had an active rescue mission at the scene.
This type of small-scale environmental incident highlights the constant balance between industrial work and nature protection in Finland's lake-rich regions. While quickly contained, it shows how easily routine machinery failures can impact vulnerable shoreline ecosystems.
