Danish consumers are embracing digital payments during the Black Friday shopping period with unprecedented enthusiasm. MobilePay transactions surged three percent higher this Friday compared to the same time last year, according to payment company Vipps MobilePay. The payment platform recorded approximately 8,000 transactions per hour during peak shopping periods.
Casper Højgaard, MobilePay's e-commerce chief, observed that Black Friday has established itself as a major retail event in Denmark. He noted that Danish shoppers are now spreading purchases more evenly throughout the entire Black Week. This strategic shift indicates evolving consumer behavior in the Danish market.
The current week's turnover reached eighteen percent above last year's figures. Last year's Black Friday saw Danes complete 1.8 million transactions totaling 1.2 billion Danish kroner through MobilePay. Women accounted for sixty-nine percent of these payments, highlighting gender-based spending patterns during major sales events.
Despite both years falling on paydays, this year's shopping activity has consistently outperformed last year's promotional week across all days. Last year's peak payment period occurred between 8 PM and 9 PM, with more than thirty-four transactions processed every second.
Credit card usage also saw substantial growth during the Black Friday period. Card turnover during the promotional week exceeded the average weekly turnover by thirty-six percent, according to central bank data. Total Black Friday turnover finished forty-three percent higher than the previous year.
The rising transaction volumes reflect Denmark's continued transition toward cashless society. Copenhagen's shopping districts and retail centers across the Øresund region benefit directly from this digital payment expansion. Danish companies like Bestseller, Pandora, and Lego see substantial revenue boosts during these peak shopping periods.
This payment trend demonstrates Denmark's position as a European leader in digital finance. The country's high smartphone penetration and tech-savvy population create ideal conditions for mobile payment adoption. Retail analysts suggest these patterns will continue shaping Denmark's consumer economy through future shopping seasons.
The consistent year-over-year growth in MobilePay usage indicates strong consumer confidence in Denmark's digital infrastructure. Both traditional retailers in Copenhagen's Strøget district and e-commerce platforms benefit from this payment revolution. The data suggests Danish shoppers increasingly prefer the convenience and security of mobile payments for major purchasing events.
