Northside Festival will serve meat and fish again starting next summer. The Danish music event plans to reverse its 2022 decision to go fully vegetarian.
Festival director Brian Nielsen called the previous menu change a 'big mistake.' He said the move was made without consulting attendees first.
Many guests chose to skip Northside because of its plant-based offerings. This created financial pressure on the event.
Nielsen acknowledged the economic reality in a public statement. 'We must admit this percentage is very large,' he said. 'Losing these potential participants is simply not financially sustainable for us.'
The festival will maintain its plant-based focus while adding meat options. This balanced approach responds to audience demand while keeping sustainability goals.
Northside's reversal shows even well-intentioned environmental moves need customer support. Festival organizers learned that major menu changes require public buy-in to succeed financially.
