Thirteen lawmakers from Norway’s Conservative Party, Høyre, are urging the party’s new leadership to commit tens of billions of kroner to upgrade county roads. Storting representative Ove Trellevik from Vestland says the current state of these roads is “miserable” and has called for a dedicated ramp-up plan for repairs and improvements. Trellevik emphasized that the condition of the county road network is unacceptable and requires immediate attention. He stated that the party cannot leave deteriorating and unsafe roads for future generations to manage. Trellevik and twelve other Conservative Party representatives will present a formal proposal at Høyre’s national convention. This gathering is the final one under the leadership of Erna Solberg, who is stepping down as party leader. Their proposal requests an annual increase in funding for county roads by eight to ten billion kroner. The group argues that this level of investment is necessary to address the poor state of regional infrastructure across Norway. Trellevik warned that Høyre will be held accountable if it fails to follow through on this issue. He stressed that the party has a responsibility to ensure safe and reliable road conditions throughout the country. The lawmakers’ initiative highlights growing internal pressure within Høyre to prioritize infrastructure spending during a period of leadership transition. Their call for action focuses solely on improving the physical condition of county roads.
