Police stopped multiple vehicles during a random speed check on Norway's E6 highway Friday afternoon. The operation took place near Dunderlandsdalen in Rana municipality.
Officers issued immediate license revocations for two drivers caught at extreme speeds. One driver in his twenties was recorded at 161 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.
"We consider this serious because they pose a threat to other road users," said a police representative from the Nordland district. "He will likely lose his license for quite some time."
The second driver faced penalties for traveling at 133 km/h. Both received simplified fines on the spot alongside license suspensions.
Police noted that stopping vehicles at such high speeds is unusual, particularly on heavily trafficked roads like the E6. This major highway runs through northern Norway and serves as a crucial transport corridor.
Norwegian traffic laws impose strict penalties for excessive speeding. Drivers exceeding the limit by substantial margins typically face immediate license revocation.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges with speeding on Norwegian highways despite extensive traffic safety campaigns. Authorities continue to prioritize speed enforcement on high-risk road sections.
