Norwegian police districts warn about fentanyl and nitazenes. These drugs are highly dangerous and can cause fatal overdoses.

Starting in 2026, people with minor drug possession citations can join the Police Academy. They will have the same opportunities as other applicants.

Police Academy board chairman Hans Vik told Khrono that young people deserve chances to move past mistakes. Until now, minor drug offenses like cannabis or cocaine possession blocked police careers.

Oslo emergency rooms report sharp increases in substance-related poisonings over five years. Alcohol causes half of these cases.

Cocaine poisonings more than doubled from 2019 to 2023. Ketamine poisonings increased tenfold during this period. A new study in the Journal of the Norwegian Medical Association documents these trends.

This policy change creates an interesting contrast. Norway maintains strict warnings about dangerous drugs while relaxing career restrictions for minor offenses. The timing coincides with concerning patterns in substance abuse emergencies across Oslo.
