Southern Norway has benefited from the national power price nearly every day this quarter. Electricity rates exceeded the 50-øre national price benchmark for 27 of 31 days in Western and Southern Norway. Eastern Norway saw prices above the benchmark for 25 days.
Power analyst Tor Reier Lilleholt from Volue said the national pricing model will become profitable in certain weeks for Central Norway as winter approaches. He noted the situation will become more interesting during winter months.
The story differs dramatically in northern regions. Northern Norway has lost money every single day under the national pricing scheme. Central Norway saw prices exceed the 50-øre level only eight days during the same period.
Over 1 million power meters across Norway now use the national pricing model. This includes nearly 168,000 holiday homes.
The pricing divide highlights Norway's regional energy disparities. Southern consumers save money while northern residents pay more under the current system. This creates clear winners and losers based purely on geography.
