The Norwegian Tax Administration confirms all taxpayers will receive their 2024 tax settlement before December 1. Most people received their settlements between April and June. But approximately 50,000 taxpayers must wait until autumn for final processing.

Regine H. Vastvedt, director of user dialogue, shared this update in an email statement. She noted the tax office continues working through remaining cases.

Taxpayers due refunds will receive interest on their money. The current annual interest rate stands at 3.51%. This interest accrues from July 1 of the income year until the settlement gets issued. The same interest applies to people who owe additional tax.

This annual delay affects tens of thousands despite digital systems. The interest payment partially compensates for the wait, but many would prefer timely processing over late interest payments. The situation repeats yearly, suggesting systemic capacity issues during peak processing periods.
