A teacher in Norway's Møre and Romsdal region faces serious charges related to child exploitation material. The man worked at a local school and held volunteer positions involving children during his free time.

Police have detained him for four weeks while investigating allegations of uploading, sharing, and storing child sexual abuse material. Authorities expressed concern he might destroy evidence if released.

The charges fall under Norway's Penal Code §311 regarding production of child sexual abuse material or content that sexualizes children. Investigators noted the suspect may have posed as a child online to contact other children.

Police attorney Cathrin Remøy explained the concerning pattern. "By pretending to be a child, it becomes easier to contact other children with goals like obtaining images and videos, sexual chatting, and in worst cases committing abuse against them," she stated.

Remøy emphasized police haven't found evidence of physical assaults by the teacher. There's also no indication he photographed or filmed anyone through his work or volunteer positions.

Investigators described the scale of accounts used by the man as "terrifyingly many." Police discovered 44 emails used to create cloud storage accounts and expect extensive work to secure all content.

The court noted the man used anonymous networks and names that couldn't be traced to him. Police worry that if released, he could easily log into these accounts and delete content personally or through others.

The investigation began after alerts from American organization NCMEC, which works to prevent child sexual exploitation. Both the teacher's employer and the club where he volunteered were informed about the case on Monday afternoon.

The club's board chairman confirmed the man resigned from all volunteer positions earlier this week. His defense lawyer declined to comment, citing concern for the man's family.

Initially, a publication ban prevented media coverage, but Norway's Frostating Court of Appeal lifted this restriction on Monday afternoon.

The case highlights ongoing challenges in combating online child exploitation, particularly when suspects use multiple anonymous accounts across international platforms. Police continue their investigation into the full extent of the material involved.
