Norway's Education Union demands an extra billion kroner in the state budget. They want this money to solve the staffing crisis in kindergartens. That equals about $100 million USD.

The government proposed continuing a scheme with 200 million kroner. This targets better staffing levels in preschools. But union leaders say this amount falls far short.

Union deputy leader Ann Mari Milo Lorentzen stated the position clearly. She said in a statement that fresh funds must reach municipalities directly. Only then can staffing actually improve.

Previous government allocations for kindergarten staffing often failed to reach frontline services. Money intended for more teachers got stuck in bureaucracy.

The staffing crisis now affects parents' ability to work. Kindergartens face critical shortages across Norway. They cut opening hours due to lack of staff. Employee sick leave rates have skyrocketed.

Lorentzen argues the consequences must reach Parliament members. When parents cannot work because kindergartens lack staff, the entire economy suffers.

The union wants the scheme expanded to 1.2 billion kroner total by 2026. They insist local municipalities need direct access to apply for these funds.

This situation shows a clear gap between government proposals and frontline needs. While politicians allocate modest sums, educators say only substantial investment will solve the crisis.
