Police Update on Fake Restaurant Job Scam in Tampere

Finnish police are closing an investigation into a fake restaurant that sought staff in Tampere. The scam attempted to steal personal data through job applications but largely failed. Authorities confirm the fraudulent website has been taken offline.

Police Update on Fake Restaurant Job Scam in Tampere

Police in Finland's Pirkanmaa region report progress in investigating a fake restaurant scam. The fraudulent Ainohelmi restaurant advertised for staff in Tampere despite not existing. Scammers used the job listing to fish for personal information through a legitimate service platform.

Authorities confirmed the fake website is now offline. The site previously appeared to be AI-generated. Investigators determined the operation likely originated from West Africa.

Criminal Commissioner Tommi Juvonen said in a statement that police collaborated with various online operators. The data fishing attempt appears to have failed. Only one person is known to have mistakenly submitted information to the fake restaurant.

Juvonen acknowledged more people might have fallen for the scam without reporting it. The case will likely close soon since the crime occurred abroad and caused no known damages. No stolen information has been used for criminal purposes.

Police remind everyone never to share bank credentials or identification tools with anyone. Similar Finnish-language phishing sites have appeared under other service names. Authorities urge caution when searching for services or jobs online.

This case shows how scammers adapt to local contexts while operating internationally. The quick takedown prevented wider damage, but such schemes will likely continue evolving.
