A fully loaded postal trailer was spotted driving on Helsinki's Ring Road III with its rear door wide open. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon around 1:40 PM near Porttipuisto in Vantaa.
A truck driver who witnessed the scene captured video evidence. He attempted to alert the postal truck driver by honking but received no response.
Hannu Kaihilahti, who oversees regional transport operations for Posti, confirmed the vehicle belongs to a postal transport partner. The company has contacted the partner to determine necessary actions.
Kaihilahti stated that such situations typically result from human error or technical faults. He emphasized that safety remains Posti's top priority and all observations are taken seriously.
Posti declined to comment on whether the open-door truck posed dangers to other traffic. The company did not specify what cargo might have been at risk of falling onto the busy highway.
Helsinki's Ring Road III serves as a major transportation artery circling Finland's capital region. Heavy truck traffic is common on this route, making safety incidents particularly concerning.
The postal service's response appears standard but leaves unanswered questions about potential risks to public safety. Transport companies typically have strict protocols for securing vehicle doors before departure.
