A search operation is underway in the Rauma mountains after a man went missing during a solo climb. Police reported at 7:32 p.m. that a rescue helicopter has arrived and begun its search. The missing man, described as a local resident who is well-equipped and an adult, was last heard from at noon when he sent a Snapchat message to a friend. That message is considered his last known sign of life.
The man set out alone around 10 a.m. on Sunday, heading up Hostadgjelet toward Soggefjellet with an ice axe and crampons. He was expected to return before nightfall. Operations leader Per Åge Ferstad of the Møre og Romsdal police district noted the challenging terrain, stating that personnel with expertise in steep mountains, snow, and ice are required. Firefighters have also arrived to assist in the effort.
According to a witness speaking to NRK, both police and fire services have reached the site, and a large floodlight has been set up to illuminate the mountain. Police confirmed that a helicopter from Hovedredningssentralen is en route, along with volunteer search teams, dogs, and drones. Ferstad emphasized they are not speculating but hope the man is safe, though possibly stranded.
