Serious Head-On Crash in Lapland Leaves Multiple Injured

A serious head-on collision between two passenger cars occurred on Saturday afternoon north of Pelkosenniemi in Lapland. Eight people were involved in the crash, and according to Finland's rescue services, several of them sustained serious injuries. The accident happened on Highway 5 near the Kokkosniva power plant. Emergency response teams acted quickly to manage the situation. Five of the injured individuals were transported to medical care by ground ambulance units. Three others were evacuated by helicopter due to the severity of their injuries. One person was trapped inside a vehicle and had to be freed by emergency personnel, who dismantled parts of the car's structure to carry out the rescue. A total of nine rescue service units were dispatched to the crash site to assist with the operation. Highway 5 was closed to traffic for the entire duration of the rescue and subsequent clearance work.
