Storm Amy has hit Sweden with full force. The severe weather knocked down trees, caused power outages, and disrupted flights across the country.
Malmö received rainfall equivalent to half of October's normal precipitation in just one day. Strong winds battered Sweden's west and south coasts on Saturday morning.
Meteorologists measured hurricane-force gusts reaching 33 meters per second at sea. 'The winds have really picked up now,' meteorologist Emma Härenstam said in a morning briefing.
Storm gusts were also reported from northern Öland. Reports of fallen trees came from further north and east in Östergötland, Närke and Södermanland later in the day.
Train traffic remains largely canceled in Skåne county. Major disruptions affected other parts of western and southern Sweden, particularly Västra Götaland region. Most services should resume during the evening.
