The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued its highest red warning for Storm Boris, which is expected to bring hurricane-force winds to western Jutland on May 1. DMI meteorologists warn that gusts could reach 50 meters per second when the storm makes landfall near Esbjerg around noon. This is the strongest storm to hit Denmark since 2017. DMI meteorologist Kirsten Jensen stated: "This is the strongest storm to hit Denmark since 2017. We urge residents in coastal areas to secure loose objects and avoid travel." The agency upgraded the warning to red level at 06:00 on April 30, signaling a threat to life and property. Sustained winds of 35 meters per second are also expected. Several ferry routes, including the important Rodby-Puttgarden connection, have been suspended ahead of the storm. Schools in the municipalities of Ribe, Varde, and Esbjerg will close their doors at 10:00 on May 1 as a precaution. Authorities are advising residents in affected areas to stay indoors and secure gardens and balconies. Businesses in the region are also preparing for potential damage, with many closing early or shifting to remote operations.
