Sweden's Centre Party Proposes New EV Leasing Bonus
Sweden's Centre Party proposes a 1,500 kronor monthly bonus for eco-friendly car leasing to help households afford electric vehicles. The plan targets 100,000 households yearly through 2030 with rural priority. This addresses Sweden's projected failure to meet key climate targets.

Sweden's Centre Party wants to make electric car leasing more affordable. They propose a monthly household bonus of 1,500 kronor ($140) for eco-friendly vehicle leases. This aims to help Sweden reach climate goals for 2030 that currently appear far out of reach.
The party's budget plan targets ESR emissions from transport and building heating. Sweden is projected to miss these climate targets by a wide margin.
Party leader Anna-Karin Hatt described the proposal as ready for immediate implementation. She said the plan is concrete, fully financed and calculated in a statement.
The green car bonus would reach 100,000 households annually through 2030. Half a million households would benefit total. Rural residents would receive priority access.
The Centre Party allocated five billion kronor ($465 million) for the program. They project it will reduce ESR emissions by 2.7 million tons by 2030.
This proposal comes as Sweden struggles with high electric vehicle costs. The government faces pressure to make climate solutions more accessible to average families.
Will this subsidy be enough to change consumer behavior? Sweden needs substantial emission reductions across all sectors to meet its climate commitments.
