The Sweden Democrats have widened their lead over the Moderate Party for the sixth consecutive month. A new opinion poll shows the anti-immigration party securing second place in Swedish politics.
Polling director Johan Martinsson called the sustained trend remarkable. The Sweden Democrats now stand at 21.6%, their highest level in nearly two years. The Moderate Party trails at 18.4%.
Voter movements remain minimal overall despite recent political developments. The opposition bloc maintains a 5.5 percentage point lead over governing parties.
Martinsson noted the paradox of intense political activity producing little opinion change. Governing parties typically trail during electoral periods, but current patterns show unusual stability.
Within the opposition, the Social Democrats have dropped to 32.6%, their lowest since last November. The Left Party and Green Party both gained ground.
On the governing side, the Christian Democrats hover just above the 4% parliamentary threshold. They reached nearly 5% last month.
The Liberals remain stagnant at 2.3% despite a month of strong policy statements. Leader Simona Mohamsson rejected cooperation with the Sweden Democrats and demanded phasing out for-profit schools.
Martinsson observed that neither position boosted support. The party appears reliant on core supporters as low confidence ratings deter new voters.
The survey contacted 1,966 Swedes aged 18-79 between October 18-27. It reflects Sweden's political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
Political analysts note the Sweden Democrats' consistent gains challenge traditional party dynamics. Their steady rise contrasts with other parties' fluctuating support.
